When in Oodeedoh saw this bookcase dollhouse on Flickr, any residual envy we'd had over a dreamhouse for their kids evaporated. Creator, Sarah, even installed working lights! Best of all, when (if) your child outgrows their dollhouse, you've got a very useful bookshelf ready for action. Ain't a great idea?

Exhibit your vacation memorabilia as art by assembling it into a striking three-dimensional display. Let the children collect things and just put them together in a jar. Another great idea from Martha Stewart.

lecturas y manualidades / summer reading crafts

This summer you can do crafts based on children’s books. The Long Thread share with us its project based on the book Elmer by David McKee. Elmer is the story of a patchwork elephant who wants to look like everyone else, but soon realizes that it’s boring to blend in with the crowd. At the end of the book the elephants have a parade, so they decided to make an elephant parade garland. A fun and easy project for a summer afternoon.

I love popsicles and kids love them too! So when they are already eaten, keep the sticks to make this cute project: a jewelry o secret box. Kaboose teaches us how to make: just grab them and glue them together.

Buena idea, ¿verdad?
There's The Object Project's quick tip for keeping little fingers busy and eliminating waste at the same time! Every mother loves the creativity that "Play-doh" time can inspire, but cleaning it up is a most dreaded task! No matter how hard you try, days later you're sure to find colorful bits of dried dough in the carpet, under the rug, or occassionally, the toybox! Start a little collection in a ziploc bag or an empty Play-doh can. When you've accumulated a handful or more, you and your kids can use it during craft time to create cool collages!

koala de hojalata / can koala craft

Fun In The Making gives us this beautiful recycling project: a can koala craft. Gather supplies like : large soup or tomato can (for the body), tuna or cat food can (for the head), bottle caps (for eyes) with washers... Glue together everything except the arms and legs and the head. I like using a magnet to connect the head to the body. In this case the magnet doubles as the neck. Are you thinking of any other animal?

They cost absolutely nothing as you'll see, and the kids (ages 1-7) lead nearly every step. They will be so proud of these drums & shakers! While the shakers sound really vibrant & satisfyingly "noisy," the drums do sound a bit dull when played by hand. Calypso!

rollos luminosos / scary paper rolls

¡Adelante!

juego de Mr. Men / Mr. Bump'er cars

Just a few years ago, this place was called Dumptown. For years, the folks living here hadn't thought much about where waste went when they threw it out. Things that easily could have been reused or recycled were tossed in the trash, because nobody believed recycling made a difference. They learned to reduce the amount of waste they threw away, to reuse other things and to recycle. Finally, they closed the old city dump and built a new solid waste landfill outside of town. With the town's new image, it needed a new name, and Recycle City was born. Travel around Recycle City and find out what folks here are doing to reduce waste and make the environment better.
